The Rollercoaster ride that is buying your wedding dress...
There are many highs and lows when it comes to buying your wedding dress, the many many emotions that you will experience from saying yes to the engagement ring to then saying I do at the end of the aisle.
Phase 1 - Excitement
This is those first few days or weeks after that shock proposal, you are blissfully unaware of budgets and the unwanted requests for invites have yet to start showing up, where you can get lost in your fantasies of that dream venue, vogue photographer and celeb make up artist, making sure that no matter what dress you daydream about, you are looking insanely beautiful.
Phase 2 - Research like your life depends on it
This is where the day dreaming gets real, you have a pinterest board for every theme you could possibly think off and you’ve followed every bridal boutique up and down the country on instagram. You’ve fast realised that there are infinate options when it comes to your wedding dress. Ballgown, A line, Plunge neckline, High Neck, Backless, Full Length Sleeves, Lace, Silk, Satin, Crepe, I could go on. This very quickly leads into
Phase 3. Indecision and Overwhelm
Having read no end of bridal blogs, watched endless reels from your new favourite bridal boutiques you can quickly come to the conclusion that you will never find THE ONE and will no doubt be walking down the aisle in your pj’s. However once the fear of overwhelm passes you realise that you are ready for
Phase 4. Shopping
So you’ve got every Saturday booked out for the foreseeable future along with Mum, your sister, great auntie, the next door neighbours cat and any other female you have crossed paths with in the last 7 years. You’ve tried on almost every dress in the boutique and it’s becoming more and more obvious to you that this is never going to happen, then…
Phase 5. You found THE ONE!!
Just when all hope was lost, you’ve gone and done the unthinkable, you tried that dress on and would you beleive it, it hit you straight in the feels, mum cried, you cried even your stylist cried. Just when you were on the brink of thinking all hope was lost, you look and feel bloody incredible and you’ve said YES TO THE DRESS!!
Phase 6. Buyer’s remorse
The excitements wore off and the deposit has left your bank account, suddenly all those dresses you’ve been browsing on instagram seem so much more beautiful than you remember your dress being. You spiral into a world of panic until
Phase 7. You fall in love all over again
After weeks of feeling sick to the stomach, the time comes, your dress has arrived and you’ve tried her on again with fresh eyes and remembered exactly why you fell in love in the first place. You’ve decided on the perfect accessories and now can’t wait to walk down that aisle. Saying I do can’t come soon enough.
So have I missed a phase?
