Now, I know I got married in the height of the summer, but a Christmas wedding was always second on this list.

Christmas has always been a huge event in my family, my beloved Grandad adored this time of year and bar my several (read *many, many) years running weddings and events at hotels where my feelings may have waned slightly, I have always loved this time of year; and even more so I now have 2 children to enjoy the festivities with.

Now to me, a wedding at this time of year is all about romance. All your loved ones together, the darker evenings, candlelight, a roaring fireplace maybe? Lots of lovely rich, deep and dark colours, everything that just radiates love and warmth!

The Dress

Now obviously this time of year, we all want to stay warm, but its not like you can wear your thermals under your wedding dress is it? Well, some maybe!

I think if I were to plan a wedding at this time of year, my dress would be Sassi Holford’s Vivian, with the clean lines on the bodice, long sleeves and soft tulle skirt. Beautiful romantic, classically modern and subtly sexy.

Styling

There’s something simply gorgeous about a richly dark bouquet; purples, burgundies and pinks. Over the years, I’ve grown to love these more than the spring pastels and summer brights. (I mean it’s a close call but, you know!)

Just imagine all those beautifully rich colours with countless candles and fairy lights, lighting up your venue? The ultimate romantics dream right?! Food & Drink

In our family, this time of year is all about the food & drink, especially where Mr A is concerned. The season of warm drinks, festive cocktails and tasty treats.

2018/19 are the years of the ‘station’ whether its food or drink. One of my favourite things about this time of year is the Christmas Markets and snuggling up with a warm cider, so what could be better than to have a little mulled wine & cider station waiting to greet your guests, (Image via Pinterest) or a do it yourself Hot Chocolate Station for all those driving/not drinking.

Food wise, its all about the soup station, mini bowls, different soups, breads and toppings. So many different options, it would be hard not to please everyone.

If all my years in hospitality have taught me anything, as long as your guests are warm, fed and watered, they’ll be happy!

Everything else is just for you, do what you want for your wedding day. You’re the one who will live with the photos and the memories.
