How to get the best from your bridal appointment...

There are many tricks of the trade that I have learned over the years, what works when finding THE dress you’ll remember forever and what will only ever end up in disappointment.

We can’t all rely on Say Yes to the Dress for the insider knowledge as to what awaits you at your bridal appointment, so here are some of my most helpful of hints and tips to get the best from your bridal appointment to find the most beautiful version of you in the dress of your dreams.

1. Make sure you keep an open mind…

Doing your research and having an idea of what you would like to say I do in is fabulous, but you MUST keep an open mind, regardless of it being your 1st or 10th appointment. We’ve all seen those episodes of Say Yes to the Dress where the Bride who has tried on all the variations of a fitted gown is forced into a ballgown to then fall in love with it.

Trust in your stylist, and trust me when I say, we only have your best interest’s at heart, you looking and feeling amazing is our end goal as well as your own, your wedding photos could potentially be our best kind of advertising, so we’re not going to let you leave in anything less than perfect.

2. Be open and honest

From the moment you book your appointment in the boutique, it is my job to get to know you as much as I can, from our chats online before we meet, to the cup of tea/cheeky gin to settle your nerves when you arrive at the boutique. I want to know about you, your partner, how you met, what you’re having for dinner that evening and of course I want to know all about the wedding.

By telling me as much as you can about it all, it helps me get to know you better, what you like and don’t like, this is going to be the biggest tools for helping me to then find you the dress you didn’t even know you wanted.

3. Have a budget in mind

Girls, we’ve all been there, going to Primark to buy socks and leaving 20 minutes later having spent near enough £200. Its important to have a budget for your wedding dress and it’s even more important to know whether or not you have any wiggle room to that budget, if going over into the next budget bracket isn’t the end of the world then feel confident in that decision. Don’t ever feel pressured to say yes to the extra £’s.

4. Pick the right people to join you

I’m saving the best for last but if there was ever a piece of advice I could offer that would be up there, I mean potentially the most vital for ensuring success at your appointment, bringing the right people with you is absolutely essential. Bringing the wrong people can and will only lead to disappointment. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, your entourage need to have your best interests at heart, know you and your style, maybe even better than you know yourself. Yes we all want someone to be honest with us (and that’s what I’m here for) but there’s being honest and there’s being savage and no one wants that tainting any happy memories.

5. Wearing the right pants

Last but certainly not least, wear the right pants! Firstly it can be extremely hard to look past black pants in an ivory gown, but also should we be trying on more fitted gowns then shapewear would be an idea. Nan’s have been known to find it very hard to unsee an obvious VPL.

Trust in me and make note of these hints ahead of your bridal appointments and I promise you, you will have every bit of success in finding your dream wedding dress!

All my love
